MEDSFILE.COM LAUNCHED TO HELP SAVE LIVES BY PROVIDING EASY ACCESS TO PERSONAL MEDICAL INFORMATION
MedsFile.com, LLC announces the launch of its web site, MedsFile.com.
ATLANTA, GA (October 28, 2005) In an emergency, easy and timely access to a patient’s medical information can be life-saving, yet it is rarely readily available to emergency medical technicians, doctors or hospital staff. The Atlanta-based company MedsFile.com, LLC, recognized this challenge, and today, with the launch of its website MedsFile.com (www.medsfile.com), offers a solution.
MedsFile.com is a site designed to ensure accurate storage of a person’s medical information, such as prescription information, dosages, allergies, physician information and emergency contact information. These records can be accessed during an emergency or used to track everyday medication needs.
A user on MedsFile.com receives a personal login and PIN to the site. This user enters the patient’s medical information into the database. Some patients, such as elderly individuals, may wish to use the service, but are unable to personally key in their medical information. MedsFile.com offers a forms packet which can be printed out. The information can be filled out by hand, and then given to a loved one or caretaker to be entered in.
Once the MedsFile.com account is established, the company then puts the login and PIN onto a plastic card that can be kept in the user’s wallet. With that login and PIN, anyone a medical technician, caretaker, bystander etc. can go to www.medsfile.com and retrieve the user’s medical information.
While anyone with a user’s login and PIN can view a patient’s medical information, changing this information requires a unique second-level of security, which does not appear anywhere on the plastic card or on the website. This is a personal question such as the last four digits of a user’s social security number, or mother’s maiden name. Furthermore, to ensure a user’s privacy, the patient’s name does not appear on their card or on the website.
The card contains a large red banner across the top that clearly calls out its purpose in the event of an emergency and users are encouraged to put it in a prominent place, such as beside a driver’s license or identification card. Instructions for accessing the online information are printed on the front of the card and due to the use of WAP technology, the information can also be accessed via a mobile device.
MedsFile.com users are also encouraged to present their card to nurses or doctors in order to retrieve their medical history, ensuring accuracy. The user’s information can be printed out by nurses or doctors and placed into the patient’s chart for future reference. “Some patients have such extensive medical needs that they simply cannot know the names and dosages of each medication,” said
